Strong winds then sweltering heat were the formidable conditions that had to be faced at Lochter this past week.
D. Simpson had a great day using a black and olive WSW and accounted for 21 fish. Chris Mcallister varied things up a bit and got 22 fish on diawl bachs cormorants and various dries.
Buzzers could still be effective and Frank Smith got 23, R. Knowles from Aberdeen got 9, G. Abel got 15 and Brian Ross got 12.
Friends, Dave Barron and Bob Clark from Macduff went to their favourite spot at the Muckle Troot and with their cherished black bunny leech, both got 9 fish each.
Robert Reilly from Aberdeen took his friend Ross for his first fly fishing experience. Ross is a native of Alabama in the USA and for his day commendably got 4 fish. Poor Robert got 2 fish and Ross was heard to say “Shucks Bob- I whipped your ass boy”.
A titanic struggle took place at the Muckle Troot when Jamie McHardy on his last cast of the night hooked up with a 21lb fish. The fish took him up and down the loch several times before being landed with the help of Charlie Hendry his envious fishing partner. The fish was released to be caught another day.
This coming weekend is an action packed on at Lochter.
On Saturday 11th June the Macmillan Big Fish Competitions is being held at the Muckle Troot loch. It is still not too late to enter by contacting the charity on

On Sunday 12th June Lochter is proud to host the Final of Scottish National Stillwater Championship for 2011. The cream of Stillwater fishers will be taking part to see who qualifies for the Scottish team. This competition will take part on the two lochs in front of the bothy but the Muckle Troot loch will still be open to our customers to use.
As the nights have now stretched and there are some fine ‘evening rises’ we are again doing a 2hr for a fiver C&R ticket after 6pm, so you can take advantage of the favourable dry fly conditions as dusk descends.
