Royal Wedding Brings out Anglers.

While much of the nation was apparently glued to their TV`s watching Prince William marry Kate Middleton, at Lochter Fishery Oldmeldrum there was a substantial group of escapees anxious to “get oot the hoose” and avoid all the “excitement”. The only Kate they were interested in was Kate Maclaren that well loved Scottish fishing fly which ,with big hatches of natural flies and sedges, has been working well recently.
The bright sunny weather has had a big influence on the fishing during the past week with mornings and evenings being the most effective times .At the middle of the day with the sun shining brightly anglers have had to go deep to find fish and the Muckle Troot loch which is 20ft deep has proved to be the spot to keep the action going.
The week started well with Jonathon Petrie netting twenty on damsels , Sandy Reid ten on diawl bachs and D Ewan fifteen using a variety of nymphs and naturals.
Buzzers and nymphs did well throughout the week, Kevin Neri had eighteen, G Dickson, seventeen, Dave Barron ten and the Cheethams, Senior and Junior twenty three between them with Jnr just coming out ahead.
Water temperatures increased as the week went on but anglers still scored well with smaller flies generally being favoured. Ian Mutch kept two and released twelve on buzzers, Richard McHattie tempted eleven with nymphs and John Donaldson had nine on olive buzzers.
Most anglers worked out how to catch in the varying conditions and everybody thoroughly enjoyed being out and about in this fantastic weather.
Finally a reminder that the second heat of the Summer League is due this, Sunday 8th May at 9am.
