Lochter Winter League Final in Heatwave

Lochter Winter League Final in Heatwave.
Having endured some of the toughest conditions during the Winter to make the final anglers at Lochter Fishery Oldmeldrum had the warmest day of the year for the final on Sunday. With temperatures reaching the lower twenties anglers were able to cast their clout with impunity as well as casting their flies upon the water with every chance of catching a nice trout. When the scrutineers had completed their deliberations the winner of the £100 Winter League first prize was Dave Taylor by a narrow margin from Steve Corsar with the experienced Bill Bain in third place. Lady angler Lesley  Johnston finished with a flourish catching three fish all over 7lbs and winning the prize for the best fish in the final.
Entries are coming in for the £1000 Lochter Summer League and as an incentive to up and coming anglers there will be a special prize for the top novice pair in the competition. This will provide an excellent learning opportunity for less experienced anglers who should contact the fishery without delay to secure a place .
The past week has seen some excellent fishing with the strong wind making things fairly testing on some days. The Cheethams,Snr and Jnr had twenty nine between them all on damsels and Davy Wood had nineteen on Tuesday fishing into the wind with WSW`s and blobs. As conditions settled smaller flies came into their own. Frank Smith had fourteen including one at 9lbs on buzzers. Graeme Macleod had an excellent day with fifteen on buzzers and diawl bachs and Keith Johnston twenty on the same mix of flies. Overall there have been plenty of quality fish caught and juniors have been having a great time on the bait pond
Anglers have also been enjoying the onset of Spring;watching the osprey soar over the lochs, the pairs of ducks and geese getting set to nest and tantalising glimpses of the kingfisher which frequents the fishery. This is truly the best time to be down by the waterside.
