but a spotty trout lying alongside a cane wand would have been even better

I couldn't agree more :z16
Although this rod is no wand :wink

Next week can't come quick enough :z6

Nets I've had a few and the best I've tried for the river by miles is

Congrats Lindsay  :z16

For the effort you put in, you deserve a few more like that  :z12

Notice it was on the Helios too  :z4

Realistically fishing without a long handled net will lose you some decent fish over the season, get the blood pressure in the head and neck rocketing as you contort yourself upside down amongst the dockings and nettles & possibly get you a soaking to boot.............  I have tried on a few occasions to carry different net types with a greater reach but always revert to a short handled version?

Iain's right mate, I have had the exact experience above several times.  I use the Maclean weigh with the extending handle and have sliding cable tie to lock it open, helps with releasing fish when fishing from the bank over deep water.

Cheers

all mine are tied on Kamakazee B100's (until I have in my hand a suitable barbless type - which I think I've found).

All my DHE's are on B100's too.  Speak to Kev, he might machine you a barbless B100 equivalent.

Thanks guys. I always acknowledge lady luck when it comes to fishing, but for once there was no luck involved  :wink It was tactical, measured Brownie stalking, a big fish (and other fish) I found on Sunday through getting out in awful conditions. It pays off, you make your own luck as they say.

Yes Noel a PB, and will be for a long time possibly. Fish of a lifetime for sure !

B100's from now on. First fish I had on my very first DHE's were on B100's too  :oops

You can have all the great rods, reels and fly lines but when you lose confidence in terminal tackle you are well and truly phucked until you find a workaround. Mustads for the spiders (my old hook) and B100's for klinky shit.

@Iain, I like the 212Y's and Varivas 2200BL's, because as you will have seen from my tyings I like superslim bodies on my DHE's and like them to really drop arse beneath the surface. Today proved all that doesn't matter and I'll move on with B100's ! What is your new Barbless alternative.

Thinking of what trophy hunter Richard Tong said on here that him and Paul Procter don't used anything with "fine" on the packet when fishing for Don trout. But when you are a munter catching 1 to 2 lb fish these hooks do seem to hold - I have only had one Varivas slightly open and had wild fish (inc. fiesty Sea Trout) up to 3 lbs  :z8 The fish that have been straightening me aren't any bigger so wondering if it is where they are being hooked ?

Short handled net for me unless I know I won't be wading or banks are high. I really like Iain's new "ghost net" ! Any of those at Haddo on Sunday Ben ?  :wink Problem is, that fish today wouldn't have fitted in it !  :z4

Just had it suggested from someone on ADAA commitee that it is a Sea Trout kelt ? !

Discuss. I know it's not and am surprised at that suggestion tbh.
