Missing Fish
« on: 16/08/2010 at 21:45 »
Hi Guys

I was on the Don today at Kinaldie and I found a really nice pool with a few bigger fish rising in a back eddie.  I crept to the waters edge and managed to cover the fish with a size 18 olive Klink.  I rose about 4 fish and the fly disappeared but the fish never connected.

After about 45 mins of frustration I connected with a fish of about 2lb and it was worth the perseverance.

What I would like to ask is if anyone knows why it seemed the fish were spitting the fly out?

Hi John,

In an eddy, I can only think that the fish were doing what loch brownies do, coming up trying to drown it to take subsurface.  Difficult to say without seeing it.

Ben,

They seemed to be "sooking" flies off the surface.  Very similar to the rises the night I was out with you.

If I left the fly sub surface for a while is there a chance they would take it?

As an aside this is a good spot as it seems totally un-fished judging by the vegetation.

Sounds like they are drowning it!
Try a foam emerger of the same pattern so its sits just sub surface, just a thought!
