Hello,

So i ordered new backing line from a website.

Unfortunately when received it turns out it's "Memory Free Monofilament"

"Ideal for leaders and traces shooting and running lines for sea, coarse and game fishing"

.. Primarily i bought it for the colour, and plus it was in the fly fishing section under 'Backing Line'

So my question is..... Can i still use this as backing? (I've never ever reached my backing line while fishing anyways so would it really matter?

Silly question i know, but i like the colour lol, and would like to use it!!

If its of sufficient strength I don't see why not.

It's 20lbs, 100m, plus it's a lovely illuminate green that would go perfect with the grey intermediate line i have :-P

Sounds like a shooting line...may not bulk the spool out enough but as a backing line, no problems really..many people have used mono for years and years.

Just an update.

First time this has happened but a 5-6lbs fish took out ALL my floating line to the backing this weekend (which was this 20lbs stuff) and it worked a treat

Hi Chiz,

Should be fine, just replace it after a year or two, mono degrades in a way that dacron backing will not.
