Delgatie Castle Fishing Report w/e 12/06/10
« on: June 13, 2010, 13:35:43 PM »
At last - some improvement in the weather, but far from perfect yet. The water temperature has risen a bit and has led to more surface or immediate sub surface fish activity.
Dry flies and Buzzers have been predominant this week but fish have still been taken on various lures and nymphs and, noticeably some lures have been fished deeper on intermediate and slow sink lines retrieved quickly.
Mike James from Lancaster accounted for 19 fish mostly on CDCs whilst B Milne from Whitehills had 9 fish including a nice 9lb specimen on lures with the Yellow Dancer his favourite. Phil Gray from Turriff landed 16 fish using Buzzers and Emergers only. Other good catches included;

C Field       Fraserburgh     8 fish
F Murray    Buckie            8 fish

Due to the changeable weather this week's "hut topic" has been centred on end tackle and the various arguments between the "lure men" and the dry fly fishers. Listening in, it appears that whilst some fishers prefer to change colours and types, others prefer to alter sizes. Is there any answer to this argument or do we consign ourselves to sitting on the bank, huddled over a fly box, with a quizzical expression?

Delgatie Castle Trout Fishery is now a Troutmaster water and caters for "catch and release" or "fish ticket" anglers. Boats and tackle available for hire and beginners, young and old, are welcome.

For all enquiries contact Bob on 07980 999 006 or call at the fishery.
