Reel Seat

Hi Folks,

Was given a reel that has been in the family for a number of years iits a 7/8 rated and so i my rod but the reel just wont fit on proper it dose fit but not just right its very tight,

Any help on this,

If it's an old reel it will have the old style large foot. Modern reels have a smaller foot so most modern rods have a smaller reel seat fitted that only just grips the ends of the larger reel foot.

Short of getting a larger reel seat fitted on your rod, I can't think of an answer. Maybe someone else on the forum will have a better idea.

Is the foot easily removed?  I had to change the foot on a Magnum 200 years ago as it it would not fit a new salmon rod.

Yes the foot can be removed it has 4 screws in place,
