Apps Bloodworm ( bunch of worms )
« on: 08/12/2009 at 09:01 »
Hi folks

We discussed Apps Bloodworms in another thread and there were varied opinions on which styles of the pattern would fish best.

Let's have another little competition :z4 Tie up whatever variation of the fly you think would fish best at Haddo, or any small stillwater and post a photo of it here with a 50 pence coin in the photo so we can see the size of the fly.

I will choose the one that (IMHO) would probably fish the best ..... and the person who made it will win a fishing permit for the day at Haddo.

Best wishes
Mike

I dont fish blood worms at all to be honest and the nearest thing to it i would fish would propably be a red buzzer, here is one i think might fish well though.
Not my speciallity as you can see but an effort non the less!
Tied on a size 12 comp heavyweight hook and a single red plastic bead for some added weight, only 2 bits of flexi floss on each side of the bead were used! :wink

Like it or loath it the Bloodworm produces results year round and is a very effective winter fly especially for those that are looking for alternatives to pulling flies on smaller stillwaters.
I've tried this fly in a many variations but can't find one that touches the Apps - with a very slight ammendment.

Here's the one I use at present - I used to tie these on a longer shank Kamasan hook  which was Greyish in colour with an offset hook - these were brilliant but for the life of me I can't find these hooks on the net (if only I could remember the number!)

I use UTC Nymph Vinyl Rib to create a nice segmented body (in Red not Pink - lost my Red!)

Hi Mike

These are the two I normally use at Haddo, the first one is the one I have most success with during the summer.  :wink

This one has a bead body and is the one I tend to use during the winter when they are deeper, :wink

Hi folks :z16

Well that's the Christmas Eve deadline up and we have a winner :wink

I have made a decision in true TV "game show" fashion ..... so, in no particular order ..... the winner is Catman, Goolager and Bigtroot :z4

Might be a nice idea if you can all make it along for your day at Haddo on the same day?

Best wishes
