All,

I fancy using some streamers next season and want to tie them myself.  if you were only to have four patterns in your box what would they be?

cheers

Hi Matt,

Is that 4 patterns without variation or is that 4 patterns in different colours and sizes?

Assuming the latter......

Woolly Buggers in black & white, sizes 2 - 10 on 4x longshanks and some 4's & 6's with a bright ornage conehead.
Madonnas in black, brown, & yellow in above sizes
Butt Monkeys in Brown & grey sizes 2 - 8
Zoo Cougars in Yellow, Olive, & black sizes 2 - 8

These are what I will be tying for next year and I will probably add Ollie Edwards Snappy Poodle to the list, not because it is any more effective than anything listed but because I like those Moser Snapheads and the fly looks cool.  If I get really bored I will probably tie some more of Ollie's Sculpins but only if I get really bored.  They takes AGES to tie an are an imitation of something that does not, to my knowledge exist in the Don.

Cheers

I am a big believer in c&r but think I would have to make an exception for any Don fish that took one of those :z4

If you dressed those a bit SMALLER I might use them for Pike ;)

What's all this streamer nonsense? :z7

Since there is such an interest in streamers and chucking them, would it be a good topic for the fly tying competition? Just a thought. I don't have any streamer hooks but I can buy and send a couple to anyone that doesn't already have such a thing.

Iain
