HI Baz,
Fabsil , where do you get it ?
HI Ben,
Agree re Aero Wing , it's amazing . Temp. here been plummeting since last observation . I now have very large ice formations on my guttering and it's bl---y  Baltic outside. It's a bit of a baptism for your first winter here  eh ? Are you going down to the Tweed bash in March ?

Paul.
Was here last winter too Paul, everyone said that it was unusually harsh last year!!  What Tweed bash is the in march?

Will get the tying gear out tonight I think and get cracking on some tubes for the 11th  :grin

Latest stuff

Hi peter,
I'm going to tie some of your March Browns this season.

Baz,
What's the story with Fabsil? Does it matt the fibres together? Any down sides? slicks, etc?

Yes Aero is expensive (cheekily so) but arguably the best material on the market and you can make one hell of a lot of flies from one card - more annoying if you like to have an assortment of colours when it's easy to ring up a shilling or two.

No downsides Iain, no slicks and no matting of fibres  :wink

How long did they take to tie  :shock

Now for the geeky part :z6
I discovered that one length of holofusion ties 5 flies, and that i can comfortably apply 2 sets of eyes for each mix up of 5min devcon. So the flies were tied in batches of 10 (4 of) and epoxied in pairs
I entered the swap to keep me occupied for a couple of weeks and kinda finished the flies in 3 days :roll

I reckon it takes about 45 mins to tie up the 10 flies and then another 45 mins to apply 10 sets of eyes. (that includes coffee or wine, depending on daytime or evening :z7)

So i suppose they took 6 hours to tie, didn't seem that long :shock

Interesting topic on Aero wing, never used fabsil either.
Can't think of anything useful to add :z6 Never use either, or watershed for that matter, i like my dryflies to get damp :z4
I like to add Aquel to the parts i want to float, if i want it too.

On Day 3 of torrential rain  :shock
So more flooding here than at home at the moment.

Been back at the vice this afternoon, winding down after work.
Tying up a large scale EP fibre Minnow, well its a bit big to be a minnow :z6 But the technique is the same, i think :z6

I had a lot of fun tying it though.

Its on a Size 9/0 longshank hook :shock For scale this picture also has a a size 12 damsel :z18

My flies are getting more like Rob's all the time :shock :z4 :z4

Good fun though, i understand fully why Magnus calls this fly building, not fly tying :z4

Hi guys

Heres tonights efforts started off tying some streamers for the Don then got a bit more adventurous and tried my hand at a mini tarpon toad.  Trying to convince the wife she wants a trip to cuba.  Not the best tyings youll see but a good nite was had and hopefully the fish will approve.

The Mini Tarpon toad might try one on a small hook for the rainbows.

Will have to attempt a step by step sometime soon

Cheers

Michael
