Baz, my 'standard' pennell has a mirage rib and it's better than yours!  You'll be tying traffic light bloodworms next!

Iain

Hi Iain,

What hooks did you use for the Klinks in this picture? I like the angle the body sits at. Klinks are my nemesis!! I think you need three hands to tie em!  :mad

Whats yours made from ben?

Dressing is...

Hook - #2 4x longshank
Eyes - cranked tunsten flat end dumbells with Orvis Jurassic eyes epoxied to ends
Thread - white GSP
Body - Silver / Pearl UV straggle
Upper body - Nat Grizzle zonker strip
Lower body - white zonker strip
Head - Sculpin wool, black on top, below.

The zonkers are trimmed to a fish taper once tied in, same with the sculpin wool on the head.  Tying time is next to nothing but the hairdressing takes a while!

Cheers

Ben

Hi Baz,
Like the lite brite head. I think it was Jimmy Mcbride I first saw doing that quite a few years back.
Very effective addition to any traditional pattern by the way . Change the colour to suit the pattern.

Also great more fully dressed for instant muddlers!

Irvine, "Baz's Bling Fly" , has a certain ring to it ?  :z4

Hi Ben,
Ok. Since no-one has asked the question .

Why are you tying smolt imitations ?

Do you know of a place where big troots eat smolts on their downstream migration, (usually Maytime ) ??  :z4 or   am I reading too much into this ?

Just wondering ......... :wink

Paul.

Hi Paul,

I may know of such a place  :z4

Smolt fly looks great in the water and swins even better since I bent the shank slightly to the side but, that pattern, with all the rabbit, wool & tungsten is tough to cast.  May have to try something else with synthetics.  That fly is revision three, I could only cast the 1st on a 10wt, number 2 didn't look right in the water and this one is as close I have to being workable.

Yesterdays butt monkies scored well today  :wink

Any ideas anyone?

Cheers

Ben
