Have been inspired by P. Procters article in T&S (also promised Sandy I'd get round to it) ....finally I've bought some small fly hooks & materials.

Here are the first two patterns, as seen in T&S.

Sizes are slightly larger than suggested in the article as I'm getting the feel for sma' stuff. Aphids are 18's and 20's, Caenis is 22 or 24?


 



Any observations or recommendations are welcomed.

They are bonnie looking flees, my only problem with flies that size is seeing them.

They look like catchers but how did you get the one in the second pic to hover in mid air :shock

Hi Noel,

Easy,  inspiration from seeing all these hoverflies lying prostrate in spiders webs. If you can find a delicate web and catch the fly right then a decent shadow free photo can be achieved - or was it luck?
