I have just received a phone call from regular visiting river Dee fisherman Mr Reid Hagelin from Norway.

Mr Hagelin is currently residing at Glenbogle lodge and fishing middle Blackhall beat near Banchory.

At 6.45 this morning he hooked, captured and returned safely to the river a large, male, Atlantic salmon of 115 cm’s or 44.5 inches.

This fish would have weighed at least 35 lbs and would in all probability have weighed a bit more.

This is one of the largest reported capture from Scottish rivers this year I believe; we also had the biggest in February at 42lbs from Lower Blackhall.

Mr Hagelin who is visitor to Deeside many times annually to the river has been fishing Deeside for 15 years and brings large parties of eager Scandinavian fishermen to Deeside.

This fish is one of two he captured early this morning and this fish is his largest fish caught from the River Dee in his many visits to many of our fine beats.

He is a super ambassador and supporter for Deeside who actively promotes our river Dee in his native country and encourages many, many visitors to Deeside.

Many congratulations to him.

Sounds like a nice fish

Aye fair play to the guy , he tailed it in waist deep water , measured it with a tape masure , cut the nylon as it was deeped hooked and released it.

The guy who caught it is obviouslly a seriouslly skilled and dedicated  Salmon fisher as he has over 2000 fish to his rod.
