Took my son out 2 weeks ago to give him a shot of fly fishing at the waters side, i took him to Lochter as i thought its nice and open so nothing for him to get hooked on.
I gave him my #5 9ft rod he handled it very well (no false casting yet) but alas didnt catch anything.

I took him back to Lochter today and he caught his first on the fly  1lb 10oz and lost another (i caught 3 and lost 2) but im well chuffed at his efforts 

It was funny to see once when he thought i wasn't watching he even tried to false cast needles to say he landed in a tangle so i sorted him out and told just to lift it off the water for noe till he gets the hang of it.

And he's only 6 (well 7 on the 20th)

I used to wonder what all the fuss about rod weights was till today i was using my #7/8 i couldn't believe the extra effort i had to put in compared to the #5.
