Best fly when it is snowing?

It has been interesting over the last couple of days to watch which tactics anglers have chosen to use when it is snowing

What would be your first choice of fly on a small stillwater when it is snowing? Anything spring to mind? ....... How would you fish it? :wink

Best wishes

Fluorecent Bloodworm imitation of some kind.

Snow means low pressure, low light, low UV..so I would fish a pattern deep..and bloodworms are found near the bottom and not affected as much by cool surface water, and I would use DFM material to reflect any UV that was hitting the water to make the fly stand out.

But thats just me :)

Hi Rob
Yes, bloodworm is a popular choice in such conditions :z16

I think the most productive this week has been a wee damsel at about a foot under the surface, in olive or white :wink

For me it would be an Olive Alex fished deep with a fairly slow retrieve.  :z16

Mike,
My club had their 1st outing (Midmar) on Saturday - a day for staying indoors if I've ever seen one but I ventured out at 11am.
It felt like a typical Winters day so I fished my standard 'cold weather' set up. Floater, 12' leader (I was sometimes casting against the blow) , apps bloodworm on the point and a black and green buzzer on the dropper.
I had 7 fish spread evenly over both flies & interestingly enough I could only connect with fish when it was snowing, hail, or gusting - when there were sunny spells I could only get nips and plucks.

So I'll stick with the Apps Bloodworm as a favourite when it's snowing.

Iain
