lamprey are quite common on the dee, i found one quarter eaten by an otter which would have easy been 4lbs in weight so i wouldnt be suprized if they were in the don as well

The small freshwater lamprey's are very common on the Don
I've never seen the migratory ones though (they may be the same :z8 but i think they may be seperate species)
I also believe they are a good indicator of clean water :z16

Brook Lamprey, there but very rare, River Lamprey, common, Sea Lamprey, drop off at the estuary. :)

Got that from that talk I went to by the Dee Trust :)

River Lamps tend to be very silver down there sides when they first enter freshwater, much like eels and Salmon, then colour up the longer they are there. The Brooks I have seen have been very mottled with olive and beige colours, very pretty as well.

Hard to tell from that picture but its deffo a Lamp :) :wink

I remember a few years back, walking through the ugie at Aden as a kid (Why oh why?), we'd go hunting for these...the river is teeming with em..especially in the sandy areas!

River and Brook types were both found :shock
