From the Alford Angling association today.

“it is with pride and pleasure I can report that our first springer was taken from our Haughton beat yesterday.  An 18lb fish was successfully hooked and landed by Stuart Mathewson then safely returned to the river.”

Well done Stuart  *smiley-yippee*

There used to be quite a good spring run on the Don, earliest I can recall seeing one landed on the Upper river (below the Newe Weir) would have been 1st week March.
I think the earliest I had (from Deskry Pot on the Newe beat) would have been first or second week of March.

Had a quick look at the Inverurie Burgh Fishings James, they can certainly be around in February.  ( 30+ in 1977 and 1980 )
