New Pollock Reel
« on: 04/02/2012 at 22:50 »
I've just acquired one of these

in a 5/6.

Going to get a 7/9 for UK salt fishing this year to save trashing my decent stuff on rocks.
Superb drag, light and it bounces!  Best graphite reel I've seen yet from anyone, nice bit of kit for under £40.

Cheers

Agreed, I thought it was a blinder when I saw it.

Interesting..how heavy is it? I found graphite reels too light for some rods, and made the outfit feel unbalanced.

You got them in the shop as I also don't like banging £200+ reels off the rocks..lol

Had the same quandary recently but I still bought an Orvis Battenkill mid arbour for the salt. I'll pop it in a case before I put it down, my OCD will see to that.

I will probably buy one of those graphite reels Ben, for shooting head stuff (seeing how far I can throw a bit of wool...)

 :z18 Ben,

Would the Encounter LA IV (EE4Y5961) be any good for salmon fishing with a single handed rod on the Ythan?

Hi Dave,

What rod are you thinking of putting it on?  It should be fine unless your intended rod is very long and or tip heavy, the Encounter is quite a light reel.  More than enough drag to stop anything in the UK.

Ben it's a shakespeare odyssey 2.85m #7/8, do you think it would be ok?
