Fishing The Fly Scotland Forum

The Aul Troot

The first report for 2014 and at the time of writing (Sunday am) a quiet but frosty morning which has followed two weeks of unsettled conditions with wind and rain coupled with low water temperatures did nothing to encourage anglers or the fish.
Fortunately we have come through the festive season without any icing problems and now that the water is running clearer after the rainfall we should look forward to better conditions. Coloured water has predominated the last two weeks with heavy rainfall running off ploughed fields.
It has been noticed that the 'blues' have made a welcome return to feeding with several anglers landing up to 3lb specimens.
The best recorded catches for the last two weeks have fallen to; B Gray, Largue, 15 fish, (buzzers), A Murray, Gardenstown, 13 fish, (various fritz), N Thomson, Turriff, 12 fish, (buzzers and cormorant), K Simpson, Peterhead, 9 fish, (cat's whiskers/olive lures), B Furey, Peterhead, 7 fish, (cat's whisker/blobs), G Ellington, Ellon, 6 fish, (buzzers), M Pirie, Cairnbulg, 5 fish, (humungous), W Senior, Aberdeen, 5 fish, (WSW), C Watt, St Fergus, 5 fish, (cat's whisker).
The forecast from mid week suggests a lessening to the wind and rain that we have experienced recently and hopefully fishing conditions will improve.
Delgatie Castle is a Troutmaster water and is open seven days from 8:00am 'til dusk. Booking is not necessary and boats (where required) rods and tackle is available for hire at the fishery.
The management would like to extend their thanks for support during the last year and look forward to visits from old friends and newcomers.
