Leisure Battery Question

Hi Sparkys'

I've a 12V 88AHr battery that's been lying around unused for years and I thought it'd be usefull for an electric outboard.

Doubted very much if it would have much if any charge left so bought a charger and hooked it up (didn't have my multi meter on me at this stage) - had to top up 2 of the plates with distilled water by the way.

Set the charger to go (it doesn't have a voltage display for progress) and after a minute the indicator LED went from 'charging' to 'charged' then 'standby'   :shock surely not I thought

So off I travelled to get my meter and it read 7.26 Amps?

I went through the charging process again and it instantly went to charged.


Any thoughts?

OK after a few large whiskies  :z4 I just orderd one off flee bay , just need to get a battery now.
I think you need 110 AH though.

Yeah,  that's what I'd be going for in a new purchase.
The battery I have would have been more than sufficient for smaller waters.

What make, thrust and dare I ask price was your purchase.

Went for a bit of a compromise Iain , 56lb thrust drains a battery at full power in leess than an hour. I went for a 48lb thrust Diawa.£150 delivered

To be honest they are probably all made in the same factory in China.

If a 90Ah 12V car battery is of any use to anyone I have two that are free to take away.  Used but still hold good charge.

I'll check with the bank manager for a leisure battery if not I may have to take you up on your offer of a loan of one Ben (for next Saturday).

By the way it looks like the original battery problem is Sulfation (for de naytian)

Just get a good one as you just know a crap battery will shit itself and will spoil your day and i wont be giving you a tow up and down the water  :z4

Pretty sure alpha batteries are next day delivery,failling that there is always D & A Motor factors in montrose jim! They will have them in stock and i could pick it up and give it a bleesh on the charger for you  :z8
Just an idea and maybe worth a phone call!

Baz,
so how do they battery connectors attach? or should I say - the motor comes with crimped terminals - those ones with the holes in for sliding over a stud. Do these stay on or do you still need crocodile clips or what? that e-bay pictur gives nothing away.
