If you could only fill your fly box with one wet fly pattern for brown trout river fishing, what would it be?
I think I would choose the Silver Invicta :z12
What would you choose :?

There are many, but I know my favourite....
The Greenwells Spider.
Close contenders were a Waterhen Bloa and a Pheasant Tail Nymph, :wink

Hares lug,
It can be fished many different ways and although it does not match anything specific, it suggests many types of trout food.

Black Pennell as it is by far my most productive wet fly on the Don.

Interesting stuff
Silver Invicta, Greenwells Spider and Black Pennell have probably been my most productive flies on the Don over the years, excluding dries 👍
Not fished Hares Lug much on the river, but very productive on Stillwaters.

Mike,
Silver Invicta 14s-12s for Seatrout on the Don were epic when i last fished them, and also a Cinnamon Gold when the sedges are about.
Great old tried and tested patterns, :wink

A William's Favourite in a variety of sizes, a complete black fly (apart from its silver rib) which represents absolutely nothing but excels in both profile & silhouette.

black pennel for me

Black Pennell for me too!

Black Pennell for me too!
Black pennell for river fish ? Really ?
well i never....
i never bothered trying it on the don....
-
Greenwell spider followed by Wickams Fancy and Black Pennell.

I tend to do ok with a Kate Mclaren at times, don't fish a lot of wet but works for me along with a teal blue and silver. Get a lot of fish with this combo on assynt lochs as well.

Endrick Spider. 👍👍

Black Pennell for me on the Don too, always my go-to fly.

I've never fished the Don (Wish I could) but a Black Pennell has been the most reliable wet fly for me on the Welsh , English and even French rivers. This fly has everything. First of all it's BLACK. A touch of silver and colour and a bit action if tied nicely.

Black pennell. - But what's the best wet fly in the catalogue for attracting the angler? :z13
Personally, I can't resist a decent Grouse & Claret! :z4

I think that anglers 'go to flys' are really down to confidence and those memorable trout they captured! Interestingly for myself my go to dry fly on Don is simple CDC's in black, olive and brown but had much less success with Klinkhammer, also much easier and quicker to tie!
