Down Lochter way last week there was some frenetic fishing action to be had as our hard fighting fish continued to test the mettle of many an angler.
With the weather gods allowing another week of relatively mild conditions, many took advantage as we had a very busy week. It would appear that in these difficult times people seem to appreciate the simple act of angling and have taken up the sport or have come back to it after a hiatus. It would appear that all the local fisheries are enjoying a greater support and this bodes well for your future choice of viable venues.
At Lochter we now have 5 different species of fish for you to cast a fly for namely:- Rainbow, Brown, Blues, Tiger and Brook Trout. They say cometh the hour cometh the man and on Saturday Andy Barrowman fitted the bill. During his session where he caught a double figure amount of fish, he found he had caught four different species with only the brown trout proving elusive. However, with darkness descending and on his last cast he managed to land a wee brown trout to complete his own personal 5 fish challenge, so it certainly is possible so why don’t you come past and give this challenge a try.
There were plenty instances of fishers in high double figures and one of these was Paul Sharp who fished teams of small buzzers to good effect, Blaine Lyon fished small nymphs, Paul Keir used a combination of orange blobs and cormorants, Rhys West used the Apps bloodworm or a green bugger and the poster boy of local angling – Alan Patterson assiduously fished the Apps bloodworm for his double figure tally.
There were lots of other healthy scores for the time of year with Albert Trail on 14 fish using nymphs or blobs, Greg Masson had 12 fish on small nymphs as did Steve MacGowan. Stephen Sinclair used the fab and diawl bach combination for 11 fish and Steve Clark used the classic buzzer and bloodworm set up for 10 fish.
Fishing buddies Steve Prince & Peter Young had an equal share of the spoils with 10 fish each using a mixture of diawl bachs, buzzers and lures. Sandy Scobie fished the mojito lure for 9 fish and Graham Duthie also had 9 on a fab with small nymphs or the dropper.
So another fine week of fishing in fine surroundings with a fine selection of fish to catch.
