Down Lochter way last week there were plenty of contented anglers as many of our bigger fish seemed to be ‘playing ball’ as they were feeding well, particularly on buzzers and sometimes the smaller the buzzer the better.
There are a myriad of ways to fish buzzers, be it depth, speed, combining them with an attracter fly or other nymphs like diawl bachs. It’s very much your personal choice as some anglers like ‘straight lining’ while other use the ‘washing line’ method and others basically fish them static.
Paul Ingram was a case in point as he fished 3 buzzers on an intermediate line mainly on the Muckle Troot loch and he had 14 fish for his session. He was particularly pleased as he had several fish over 8lb and none of the rest were below 3lb.
Pete Young fished his buzzers slowly near the pipe at the roadside loch and he landed 18 fish during his all day session with many of them being above the 5lb mark.
Albert Cowie had a lucky 13 or 12 plus 1 as its called in fishing circles using both black and green buzzers.
Ryan Reid from Ellon tied some nice neat black buzzers around the size 14 mark and he fished them on a sinking line getting most of his 10 fish ‘on the drop’.
Steve Prince went even smaller and tested his eyesight with size 16 buzzers which quickly got him 10 fish to the net.
All was not lost for lure fishers as Jim Brown had 13 on black lures, Ronnie Williamson 12 on the black WSW and Steve Towler had 9 on a selection of lures including a cats whisker and yellow dancer.
A reminder that as from this Thursday 1st October we will be operating our normal Winter hours of 8am – 5pm so it is still a potential 9 hours of fishing fun if you are an early riser – a great excuse to get out of bed!
