Sometimes it is good to let your mind wander and be playful :z12

I think I've got it about right for size & simplicity ..... It holds a Smallstream #3 well ( Dare I say better than a spool? )

And the same size copes with an ISS Spey #10/11 line too.

Simply pierce the centre with a pencil and it would serve to spool a line onto your reel :z16
Have I found an answer to 'No more plastic spools' :z8
Possibly ........ I guess it depends what customers would make of this as a replacement spool?
Cheers

But what do you all think ..... Does a quality line really need to be supplied on a spool :?
-
I don’t need a spool.
I have never considered a spool when buying a line.

Great idea, no need for a plastic spool.
-
Good idea, eco friendly
-
Great idea. I don't think anyone will complain, and if they do they are the sort of person who would probably moan about anything no matter how great it was !
-
Excellent idea Mike  I will make one and play around with it. The card board handle and reel seat could be tricky!

Thanks for the feedback folks :z16
I'm trying to make up my mind if supplying lines without a spool, or with something like this is the way forward.
To be honest, I think without a spool is the way forward, but I'm not sure if everybody is ready for that yet.
Cheers

They probably are not ready Mike. I like the idea, but like everyone else on here we are pretty open minded.
Most of the Trootmasters might not get it.
I do like a plastic spool for fitting lines to reels. I put the line on first, add the backing and wind until full. I then wind it all off again using a drill and a plastic spool with a bolt / wingnut through it. I then transfer it to another plastic spool using the drill and finally hand wind it on to the reel again. A long process but it does maximise the amount of backing and does not rely on reel makers "guidlines" which don't account for backing diameter.

Good idea Mike :z16 I would have no issues with that. I have bought lines without spools in the past. I just stick an empty bog roll tube through the centre and use that to wind on to the reel.
Mind you bog rolls are not that easy to get a good of these days :z4
