I’m looking for some suggestions for Spring Salmon flies for the ADAA Dee and Don beats.
Presumably those dressed on copper tubes are the best bet for early season, high water conditions?
Thanks in advance

In spring I carry one salmon fly in my box, a gold bodied willie gunn tube. I have different weights and vary the density of black in the wing but they are all basically the same..
The gold, old school salar hooks improve the fly.
Never found a need for anything else, just vary the weight depending on the water flow rate.

GBWG - as Sandy says :z16

Sunrays in various colours, all light weight.
Stoats Tails and Blue Charms if the water is low. (Don't be afraid to go to a large double)
Willie Gunns, gold or not.
I prefer to get the line tip to take the fly down, not the weight of the tube.
Monkeys and Dee Sheep do well too, but not with me.
Above the desk that I am currently sitting at is the fly that I caught my first salmon. It is a 50mm Willie Gunn Waddington, tied by Sandy Harper. If I recall correctly, Sandy was from Helmsdale or Brora but I could be wrong. Willie Gunn, light Waddington = perfect!
If anyone remembers Sandy, can they fill in the blanks for me?
Thanks,
Euan
