Title: pearl mussels
Post by: Derek Roxborough on 08/11/2019 at 20:41
saw a snippet the other day about sacksfull of pearl mussels taken from the Oykel, this was done illegally of course, I worked on a research project with these and it's about 1 in 500 that has a pearl, so the takers would destroy all those to try and get a pearl. Derek Roxborough

We had loads on our beat a number of years ago. Some sheep dip entered the river many miles upstream and killed a lot of the life off. The gravel on the Saturday was covered in algae and the following Saturday it was as clean as a fish tank.
