Title: Lochter Report – Game, Set and Catch at Lochter
Post by: Howard & Stuart on 02/07/2019 at 16:06
With Wimbledon beginning this week they say that it heralds the start of the ‘real’ Summer.  There will be much Pimms, strawberries as well as puffing, panting and groaning from the well honed athletes displaying their skills under a baking sun.  It reminded me of the old joke:- Why do fish not play tennis – because they don’t like going near the net!

Talking of nets, last week down Lochter way there were a lot of fish in a lot of nets even despite the hot and sometimes thundery weather.

Jim Sinclair from Ellon had a great evening session netting 15 fish on a variety of dry’s and CDC’s with one of them being a nice 8lb specimen.

Bill Wood used buzzers, blobs and other lures and got 14 fish for his day, Tom Reynolds from Aberdeen used a team of buzzers consistently during his session and was rewarded with 13 fish.

Top of the water fishers did well with Mike McLennan getting 12 fish on a mixture of dry’s, Jim Lawrence had 11 fish on black gnats and spiders, Neil Garden used small black spiders to get 10 fish and Eric Dickie had 9 fish on dry’s, one being a hard fighting 8lb fish.

Steve Prince, on a windy day, stripped a foam daddy along the ripple and had plenty offers on top of the 9 fish he managed to land.

With cooler weather forecast for the week ahead it bodes well that there will be some excelled dry fly fishing to be had.
