Title: Chilly for June!
Post by: Euan Innes on 05/05/2019 at 19:06
I would just like to thank Greta Thunberg for harping on about the world heating up uncontrollably and us only having ten years before we are all consumed by the fires of hell. Thanks Greta, because every time a loony like you opens its gob I end up freezing my tits off in a river somewhere. Today on the Isla was seriously cold considering that today is the 5th of May and the north wind blew down stream and forced me to keep my beannie on and not my ball cap.
I recall shivering in Assynt a decade ago in June as loonies started their preaching about the heat. I also recall the Copenhagen Climate Summit being snowed in not long after. Now as I sit watching the Scottish weather I am being told that there will be a cold front moving in from the North during the coming week. Thankfully my Panda has the winter pack but I don't recall ever having to use the heated seats this far on in the year.
The fish didn't seem to like it much either  :z4
So come on Greta and do something for all us anglers and troot out there looking for a hatch.
Shut yer damn yap!

I don't think she was on about global warming as much as climate change, it's her future , so she's entitled to talk about it, why call her a loony just because your day didn't go right? there can't be many young girls that can stand in front of a committee with the aplomb that she had, if she was my daughter I would be proud of her, Derek Roxborough

I just think the whole climate change thing is pointless as long as India, China, Russia and the USA are not on board.

The protesters had their moment in the sun the other week.  But nothing changes and they’ve quickly been forgotten about and normal service has resumed.

Enjoy your Panda whilst you still can Euan.  The powers that be want us on battery powered cars.  I wonder if there is charging points up in the hills for if we choose to have a camping weekend?  Not convinced my 150 mile allowance per charge or whatever it is they can do, would be sufficient.

It’s like people banging on about diesel.   Not all of us live and work in the city.

My 2p's worth:
quite correct Dave - if India, China etc don't help then the whole thing is pointless as they will increase pollution at a greater rate then we can ever cut it. That is not to say we should not try but we have to keep it in perspective.

In terms of electric cars - where does everyone think the power will come from ? Not many years ago we were being warned about energy blackouts as there was not enough power generation in this country( hence trying to build more nuclear power stations). Do we suddenly have a glut of electricity so we can all charge electric cars. I bet not...

Besides, we don't want every square meter of our land covered in wind turbines ( which are all built abroad)

The we get people like Emma Thompson flying over , business class , to tell us all that we should care more about the climate. She can' stuff off' for a start. Talk about being a total hypocrite...

Don't know about anyone else but if the lovely warm weather last summer was caused by climate change I'm all for it  :z12

On a more serious note we all need to take better care of the environment, but i would like it a wee bit warmer in Scotland  :X2

I saw Emma Thomson  being interviewed at the protest and quite rightly, the reporter called her out on the fact she flew over to be there, creating a significant carbon footprint.

She obviously claimed she had no other way to get here.  Well duh Emma  :X1 some of us like you, have to use transport to get where we want to go.

The hypocrisy of it all is unreal.

I’m pretty sure she could have saved her carbon footprint by not flying and done some kind of blog from the states.

Actually Derek, she is a loony. She recently claimed to be able to see CO2 in the atmosphere.

And conveniently her mother has just released a book about climate change. She is the perfect front because no one can disagree with her as she is only a girl.

do you think she is doing it for the money? :z8 Derek Roxborough

Greta isn't doing it for the money but not so sure about mommy. Greta has asbergers and is now the mouthpiece for the Extinction Clan, so I would be more inclined to question the parents. Their claims are so over the top and unfounded if you look at real scientists findings. Google Patrick Moore (not the astronomer!) or try this,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkdbSxyXftc

The claims are getting more and more stupid. Today I heard that millions of species will be extinct in the next ten years due to us driving cars and breathing out. We do desperately need to do something about the plastic we use and the rate we use oil (but we are still nowhere near "peak") and we need to stop cutting down trees. But the claim that the UK is at fault because WE started the industrial revolution is crazy. Man affecting the planet started when we stopped being nomadic and started clearing land to grow crops (sunlight reflection) and that was not in Victorian times, so that is inaccurate finger pointing. It was warmer in the Roman era, colder in the UK during the Little Ice Age when London had ice fairs on the Thames and it has been a whole lot warmer for over 80% of the life of this planet. Currently there is more greening of the planet and the edges of the Sahara are shrinking. This is due to a CO2 level that is increasing but still remains at about 5% of the highest recorded levels in the planets history.
It is cyclical and the next cold period peak is due very soon and it will co-inside with my retirement when I will probably not be able to afford renewable energy due to the cost.
It sickens me that they have pushed Greta to the front like this as a shield. Sometime in the next fifteen years when we are all turning up the heating and wondering if the wind turbines will turn today during a winter low, Greta might realise that she has been taken for a ride.

was she pushed?or is it another Conspiracy theory?, in todays paper an article on the extinction of various species, not through climate change but through our interference,, I read this piece a long time ago, we had killed so many whales that it had actually dropped the overall temperature of the seas by up to 2C, how true that is I do not know, but some of the scientific brains on here would be able to verify this? while we are on about the cold, there's a lot of fresh snow on the hills over to An'teallach, so the water will be cold for a while yet, but all the local lochs are down by at least a foot, blanked again today , Ah well , so it goes, Derek Roxborough

warmer today if you can dodge the breeze, but I persevered, and eventually I got a nice bright but small trout about 8ins, so that's me duck broken, hopefully, Derek Roxborough

I do not believe anything I am told about climate change.
A few years back we had a sever winter but no worse than what we used to get. Suddenly we were going back to the ice age and the world was freezing over. Then we get a good summer and all the ice age brains get put in there box and out come the brains telling us that the climate is heating up.
Worked outside all my working life and you just take the weather as it happens. Simple.
Bob.

quite a few comments on plastic in the environment, the dive team down in the Marrianas trench discovered a plastic bag 11miles down, 10 companies account for 52% of the plastic pollution, including   Pepsi, Coca cola, Walkers, and Mac Donalds, we have been crapping in our own nest for too long, :z8 Derek Roxborough

Well said Derek. The plastic waste is utterly disgusting and the kids whose planet we are supposed to save are some of the worst culprits. On my lunchtime run the other day I saw some snowflakes throw their lunch wrappers complete with straws out of their car window even though there was a bin 3 metres away  :mad
However, on a plus note, the same run was a lot warmer and I kept running in to clouds of Hawthorns AND more importantly TROUT were rising and feeding  :z16
As a planet I think we are screwed as the next generation don't really care but before I go I NEED to catch a lot of trout!  :z4 :z4 :z4
Tight lines now that we are warming up!

I hate litter I live next door to a police station and it is a route from the school to a local tuck shop, and the kids are quite happy to drop their rubbish on the way to school, and the police take no notice, I pick it up each time I see it,the school I went to had a clean up of the grounds each day each house taking a turn and turn about, it gave me a healthy regard for not  littering,I have to catch any trout the numbers are irrelevant, as long as I am out there :z12 Derek Roxborough

The rights and wrongs of using a young girl to front your political campaign aside, climate and weather aren't the same thing.  Declaring a "climate emergency" is superficial virtual signalling since Scotland's emissions are a fraction of a percent of global CO2 emissions.
