Title: A distinct lack of motivation....
Post by: Hamish Young on 07/07/2018 at 18:23
Today was the penultimate Saturday for my 'spring' syndicate rod on the Ness  :shock
Because of the clear blue skies, mid 20's temperature by the time I was thinking of leaving the house I ended up not going  :X7
Weeks without serious rain has left the rivers in a parlous state and I for one wouldn't be happy about C&R in these conditions (even bullying a Salmon in).
So instead I thought about heading West to hit some new Pollock marks.... I didn't  ZX2

So instead I stayed at home, did some gardening, did some DIY and entertained my son for a few hours. I may have earned some brownie points from SWBO but I have to say I was distinctly unmotivated by either fishing option today.

Time for the rain, I'm getting bored with the good weather now.....

It's getting a bit predictable, although we had a bit of haar here this afternoon, out yesterday on a local loch the first 20 minutes were hectic then the sun came out and the wind got up and we didn't see another trout, for the rest of the afternoon, but we got out and saw some fish ,  :z14 Derek Roxborough

Have been going out still several times a week.  [lochs]. Had more blank days this season than I have had in the last 20-30 years. Would not fish a river as you will just kill the fish. Removing water crowfoot yesterday from the shallows it was warm enough for a shower.
The biggest problem which goes unseen in low hot water is the freshwater lice which can eat fish browns and parr and leave no trace. A study I was involved in a few years back found over 1,000 lice on a 1/2 lbs. brownie.

Had a good day out with Iain Cameron today on Backwater reservoir but fish were few and far between.
It did rain on the way down and heavily on the way home but that is the first rain I have seen since March. I have been away in hot places for a lot of that time so maybe my observations don't count.
I too have had enough of the endless summer. I have a new salmon rod that has not seen water yet. I have two wee dogs that sound like steam trains after 30 minutes cashing rabbits and are out of sorts because they are not tired but cannot exercise enough in the heat. I can't go running as much as I want to because it IS TOO FECKING HOT!!
Please let it piss down between now and my fishing week up north in August. I have a great tan now but would rather be weather beaten with good old fashioned Scottish rain and wind right now.
My enthusiasm however has not been dented because I have been away and I am even more desperate to get out in what is shaping up to be the worst fishing year of my life.
Fuck the fine weather :X :X :X

well, i went out onto a loch down at arbriachan where i have seen max one other fisherrman on the loch at the same time as me.

i arrive last night and there are 3 boats on the loch ?!?!?

I think everyone was just waiting for the weather to break a little.

so out with the tube on the 'busy' water

the fishing was tougher than i was thinking it would be, but i still got 8 or 10 fish including one very nice one ( for that water)

i used to fish it occasionally but havent for a while. Soldier palmer was always the fly for me there. Tried other flies last night but with no results. Solider palmer - game on !

ended up withing my 2 fly cast with 2 soldier palmers  :z4

We also have 'heavy drizzle' at the moment.
Still, it's much needed and I'm glad to see it  :z16

My car is packed for a 3 day trip after carp. Hopefully the fish will be on the munch, but I don't like the hot weather and warm water conditions, I much prefer when the leaves are falling and the carp are active.
