The catch record at Lochter Fishery Oldmeldrum made interesting reading showing bags, which varied between thirty-eight and one. It demonstrated how important it is, as the natural food becomes more plentiful, to have the right fly-fished at the right depth and retrieved at the right speed.
There is nothing more frustrating to be not getting as much as a half hearted pull while an angler only fifty yards away is landing fish after fish.
Rhys West, Brian Cumming and G. McKay certainly had the right combination, each landing in excess of thirty fish using everything from blobs to buzzers as conditions altered. Experienced angler, Albert Trail, also fared well on two visits scoring twenty and eleven using mainly buzzers.
It was nice to see Walter Senior out on the water naturally using his own creation the W.S.W and accounting for eight while fishing buddy, Davy Wood, had seven on the same fly.
Other anglers having enjoyable and successful days included Bill Neave with thirteen on wotsits, G. Ruddiman seventeen on foam buzzers, Steve Towler twelve on montanas and Sandy Scobie a dozen on black nymphs.
The weather has taken an upward turn, milder and more pleasant which is good news all round.
