Fashions come and fashions go, be it computers or cars, hairstyles or music, food or clothes. At least with the later if you wait long enough your old flares or Miami vice baggy jacket will become trendy again and as I have a couple of suitcases in the loft which are full of potential trend setting togs, I certainly hope so.
It is the same with angling, there is always a new ‘must have’ rod which is lighter but casts for miles, a reel which allegedly uses technology usually confined to outer space and flies tied with a new holographic/ translucent material which if you don’t have some in your bag then you are wasting your time – or so the story goes. Most anglers have over the years accumulated stacks of assorted kit that has stood them in good stead, with which they are reluctant to part and they have confidence that it will catch a troot or two.
Confidence is half the battle and Lochter’s regular Albert Trail had a great day using his tried and tested diawl bachs; sixteen fish agreed with his choice. Jim Taylor on his first visit to Lochter used the ever reliable montanas and damsels to account for eight including one six pounder while Gary Thomson tempted nine using diawl bachs and cormorants. A special mention for Harry Hughes who on Easter Sunday used bunny leeches ‘Easter bunnies’ to catch and release twelve hard fighting fish.
The fishery is now open until dusk with a special after 5 pm offer of £9 catch and release until close. A chance to unwind after work and catch your tea!
