Title: Good Scores at Lochter
Post by: Howard & Stuart on 16/08/2017 at 10:36

With the football season now in full swing and with the Dandy Dons knocking in a good few goals and getting some well earned points on the board, it was good to see on the fishing front we had our own top scorer down Lochter way, in a week of difficult and changeable weather.

Peter Young proverbially led the line and was almost into extra time on his all day ticket when he landed his 23rd fish for the day caught on diawl bachs and black buzzers.

Keith McGregor had a great session bringing 14 fish to the net all on orange fritz.

Albert Trail stuck to an assortment of dry flies and had terrific top of the water sport eventually getting 14 fish.

Bill Wood had two sessions during the week landing 10 then 11 fish on a combination of mop fly’s, buzzers and olives. On returning to the bothy after one of these sessions with discernable sweat on his brow, he regaled how having momentarily put his rod down it then shot off across the Muckle Troot loch with a weighty trout haing taken his fly. Luckily he had a spare rod with him and as his forlorn rod circled the loch he eventually managed to put a big lure across the line and the rescue was complete; along with a 3lb trout still holding onto the fly! I’m sure this has happened or nearly happened to all of us at some point.

Other returns for the week were:-
Paul Ingram with 11 fish on montanas and sedges, Simon Ruddiman had 8 fish on dry’s and lures and also with an 8 fish total were Peter Wilson on the WSW and Walter Senior whose mysterious fly is recorded in the book as the ‘new one’.

Next time I see him I’ll find out what this fly looks like, I’ll keep you posted!

A reminder that the September Singles takes place on Sunday 17th September. Names have been coming in thick and fast so it would be better to put your name down shortly before we are fully booked.
