Title: South of France info?
Post by: Dave Felce on 26/06/2017 at 09:00
Has anyone done any fishing recently in the south of france, specifically around the Camargue (Montpellier – Arles)?

There was an article by Mark Bowler in FF&FT a few years back (I’ve sent Mark an e-mail) and I’ve got a marvelous Reader’s Digest book on fishing in france, but that dates from the 1990s!

I’m looking into the possibility of carp on the fly and was wondering about access, permits etc. any info would be much appreciated!

Cheers in advance,

Dave

Are you sure the article was not from Magnus (on this site). He fished there for the carp and wrote about it in FF&FT.

Dave,
i live in the south of France but near Toulouse. i'm not really familiar with the Camargue region fishing-wise as i go to norther Spain for carp but i can help you with online permits if you tell me which departement (french 'state') you wish to visit.
some are translated to english, some not.
cheers,
marc

that's great Marc, thank you very much!

i can "get by" in French although i'm not as fluent as i used to be when i was pretty much out in the alps for 4 months every year. so any help is very much appreciated!

i'm also very interested in hearing your experiences in Norther Spain...  :wink

i received this link from the Arles Tourist Office, which looks very useful, but i've not had time to look through it yet

ok, let me know  :z16

as for Spain, i just drive around looking for 'embalses' (reservoirs). if there are reedy patches along the banks there's more than a good chance of finding pods of carp. sometimes there's hundreds of them! sometimes not!  :z4
small +/- size 14/16 unweighted damsel nymphs or similar cast and sloooooowly retrieved in front of their face usually does the trick.

yes, that works for me too Marc. which area do you got to in N Spain?  i'm only familiar with the Picos de Europa, but haven't fished it as getting permits seems  a bit difficult. normally i travel to Extremadura for carp, which is much easier access

Huesca and Navarra foothills and yes, permits are always an enormous PIA in Spain... always making it a "hmmm, not sure i can be arsed situation".  thankfully i have friends who have more patience than i so they get to deal with it  :z4

thus said, it's not like i go there often, last time was more than a year ago.
