Title: Lochter Report - Lochter Set for Burn's Pairs
Post by: Howard & Stuart on 25/01/2017 at 10:24

For many Burn’s devotees things peak on the Bard’s Birthday on January 25th .
For anglering fans the big day is January 29th when Lochter Fishery Oldmeldrum hosts the
Burns Pairs traditionally the first competition of the year . After what is normally a closely contested warm up for the season ahead, anglers sit down to some namely fare of Haggis,
Neeps and Tatties prepared by Lochter’s chefs suitably addressed prior to consumption.

The week that’s away saw some excellent fishing conditions and some excellent bags for those who worked out how to tempt the winter trout . Steve Prince started the week strongly with fourteen on a mix of Hares Ears, Bloodworms and Buzzers. Ryan Reid chipped in with half a dozen on Buzzers while G Reid had eight on an Okay Dokey . Davy Ross used Hares Ears and Okay Dokeys to tempt seven , Bill Gibb had nine on Buzzers , Neil Summers fourteen and Doug Mair both using Buzzers and small Nymphs.

The catch record is certainly showing that the smaller flies are doing better than Lures at the present and if the winter stays mild enough to encourage fly life then this is likely to continue. There are a few anglers still looking for a partner for the Burns Pairs so late entries are being accepted .
