What's everyone's thoughts on the Scottish Game fair anglers row?
Has it had it's day?

What if it got revamped and there were different demo's etc.Would you go?

Possibly, yes. But......whilst a major revamp has to be worth trying, Anglers row has become a shadow of its former self.
There is a lot of negativity about the whole thing which is a shame, as we should be supporting events like this IMHO.
I do think there is sufficient interest amongst anglers for a truly Scottish Angling Fair to be a success, but I'm not convinced that the Scone event works for angling any more - time to strike out on a different course.

Most definitely!
I used to genuinely get excited about attending circa 10 years ago. The ability to have a news with various manufacturers about new products, demo gear and watch some demonstrations was great.
I had moved overseas but had the chance to attend last year when I returned to Scotland and couldn't believe the difference. From what I could ascertain it looked as though it was merely a chance for a few shops to clear old stock and had a bargain basement feel to it.
I grabbed some grub, had a quick gander round the shooting section and made a swift exit.

I think we would all like to go to a good 'Scottish Game/Angling Fair', but I don't know what we can do to make that happen :cool:

I have an idea that this http://www.scottishflyfair.org/index.html might go some way towards addressing the fishing show void in Scotland but its mainly fly fishing and whilst I'm not a maggot drowner (etc) I think it's a missed opportunity to not feature all aspects of our sport. There is a Salmon Festival again on the Ness in 2017 (more later) and I'd like to see that expanded as a fishing and salmon festival. However, I'm not one of the organisers.....

The 'Scottish Fly Fest' - 'Scottish Fly Fair' says 10th-11th March 2018 on the home page ..... Is that an error?
There's not an awful lot of information on the website to be honest and no contact details for enquiries?

So being one of the beginners to the sport of fly fishing I devour a lot of written articles, some of which make me shake my head in despair. Fly fishing - sport fishing - rod fishing - etc etc all seem to have a place in the leisure world much the same as road racing, time trailing, enduro, touring etc do in cycling. Only when the people concerned in cycling saw that to make something viable they had to appear to the wider market would they succeed. That must surely be so in fishing also - but it takes both sides - the suppliers and the users to make the concept reality.

I think I would agree with you Peter, a Game Fair has a wider range of visitors and potential newcomers to the sport / hobby than an angling event :cool:

Would i be correct in thinking stall holders pay the same price per footage regardless what your selling. The way i see it if a gun smith can sell 1 expensive gun or rifle it may cover his costs, A tackle dealer on the other hand has to sell a lot of flees lines reels and a few rods to cover his costs not so easy.

You are a regular at the Game Fair Brian ..... What ideas do you have that might help to improve it?

The main Idea I have Mike, is to give the people who attend these events,the feeling that they are getting £11 for £10.
That will not be easy but I think that someone is now looking at these events with that in mind
We have seen the same old same old for so long now that we could use the same event programme for every year.
I think if people were getting entertained better then the entrance cost would not be an issue.Look, we don't pay into a football match just to see goals.We enjoy the game and a goal is a bonus,So we have to sell the sizzle not the sausage. I am no expert but I know,like everyone else, from attending all these years that a revamp was overdue.
Changes could be afoot. :z12

I've just had a squint at the website for the Scottish Game Fair, £20/adult, and this piqued my interest:
Fisherman’s Row returns stronger than ever, with an especially vibrant area for fly fishermen, our traders include bespoke British hand-built fly rods from Bruce and Walker and world class fishing holiday and guiding services, boats and aquatic services. I am looking forward to seeing the meat on the bones, interesting to see 'craft' rod maker B&W returning to the fray.....

Well that was pretty underwhelming...... expected a resurgent B&W to have more presence than that.
Mind you.... costly event...... for exhibitors and visitors alike.
