Title: Lochter Report - Anglers Get the Wind Up!
Post by: Howard & Stuart on 09/08/2016 at 11:57
It was disappointing to see that strong winds led to the cancellation of the rowing events at the Rio Olympics, on health and safety grounds.

Over the last few days anglers at Lochter Fishery in Oldmeldrum, have had to thole similar unseasonal winds, casting has been a nightmare and several anglers have had to retire to the bothy to have flies removed from not only their clothing but also various parts of their anatomy.

In spite of the conditions, the fish have continued to feed and some good bags have been recorded.

R. Will used shuttlecock mergers and hoppers in the sheltered corners to account for fourteen.

John Taylor had seventeen on a fly with the intruding name of the Paul McArtney…..whether it looks like a beetle or has wings only John knows!

On Sunday, when the storm was at its height M. McPherson and A. McPherson returned seventeen between them using a mix of diawl backs and nymphs.

Before the less sheltered Muckle Troot became virtually un-fishable Peter Young varied his tactics from dries & buzzers to lures and tempted eleven nice fish.

At the time of writing, it is still blowing a whooly but the forecast is that it will slowly abate to a more seasonal mild breeze which is good news!
