Guys :z16
I thought this could be an interesting thread. Fishing small streams is becoming hugely popular and for good reason. It's awesome fun!
Some turn their nose up at catching such small fish but I find it hugely rewarding. The small stream Trout are the spookiest I've come across. Stealth and presentation are key. It also gives you a good chance to try cool casts (rolls inbetween trees, sides under branches and bow and arrows into pockets and plunge pools).
I hope some of you join with this thread. :z16
My weekend has mostly been about the 376 and dozens of wee trout upto about 10"!
Not the biggest but one of the prettiest:

Liam,
this is precisely why like you I bought the Epic 376. I know a number of small streams that I want to fish when I return home.
I will send reports once I actually get home and get out.
You are right it is good fun, I was brought up fishing for wee trout in burns.

I don't think there's a better rod out there for the small streams! Seriously impressed with it, fun with the little trout but it still has the backbone for those larger ones.
:z18
-
Liam,
not sure where you have been lately with the wee rod but there are lots of burns worth exploring, I will give you a shout when I am home and we can discuss locations for future days out.
Eddie. :z18

Sounds good to me Eddie! :z18
Mostly ones around the Buckie area when visiting my girlfriends folks. Some good ones up here and a couple get runs of sea trout and salmon when conditions are right. Hooking one of those on the 376 would be interesting!! :z4

I would be looking at Tenkara for the burns I used to fish. Back then I was using a cane rod I built from a blank I was given by Jim Somers. Was huge fun and sometimes you got a real surprise in the way of a big (for the burn) Brownie or a sea Trout.
I have found a few local burns that look ideal, but struggling to find out who owns the fishing rights.

Rob,
go fish and I am sure you will find the owner if it is any good. :X2

Rob, I agree with Eddie, go fish and report back! :z16
I fished a small stream again today with the 376. Arriving at 11am the water looked coloured, very coloured! :roll
I messed around with the Duo and picked up a few nice fish to 12" on a flashy PTN. This killed a couple of hours as I worked my way upto the flats where I hoped to spot rising fish.
Come 1pm I was at the tail of a long pool eating a sandwich when the first flies started to appear. They were LDOs and the fish were looking up. After my sandwich I had a few steady risers to cast at. I picked off most of them on an Emerger pattern whilst working towards the riffle. I could see several good fish from a distance which got the heart rate going.
Once into position I had two good fish tight to my bank inline with each other. The better one was at the front as always. :X1
The one at the back turned out to be a respectable 15"er:

It ran straight towards the bigger one as soon as I hooked it as if to warn it's buddy! :z4
Luckily there was plenty more risers to have a go at. The hatch had become almost biblical by this point. Duns littered the surface and the trout went bonkers! I spent the next couple of hours catching dozens and dozens of Trout. Most were around 9-10", a dozen went 12" and a handful pushed 15-16". :z14
Here's a few pictures of the better ones:

I have possibly found a new favourite trout stream!
I thoroughly enjoyed my day and I think the 376 did as well. :z18

Liam,
looks like you had a great day. Obviously these wee burns are worth a wander.
Well done.

Another Small Stream assault took place today. We could do with a bit of rain up this way to freshen things up. Saying that I had a great few hours fun!
I mainly fished the Duo and changed from a size 16 ptn to a grhe and back again as I lost them in trees or rocks. The fish were happy to eat both along with occasionally rising to my Duo Dry. I ended my day with around 30 trout from the size of my pinky upto 8". Here's a few shots of the better ones. The pictures also let you see just how small the burn is in places! :z16

It really is good fun pulling trout from these wee waterways, especially on the 376!

I fished a small trickle today for an hour. 3 fish were hooked and only 1 came to hand. All taken on small nymphs fished Duo style.
No fish pics so you will just have to make do with this.

I'm fishing a bigger stream tomorrow so fingers crossed!

Strong winds made for difficult conditions on the chosen venue. In between strong gusts a mix of olives dotted the surface and the trout were keen to take them!
I had good sport for an hour or so on size 14 Emergers. Once the hatch stopped I picked off a few more on the Duo before home time.
Once again the 376 did me proud and was bent double on a couple of occasions!
Here is the best from today:

A solid fish that was just dimpling on the edge of a riffle!

Wee stream for me last Saturday against a pig of a cold blustery down stream northerly wind and endless cloudless skies.
Still some nice wee flushes of Small Darks and troots interested especially in the fast water, so a cracking couple of hours.
Best couple of fish nudged just over a pound which is pretty good for this wee stream, hopefully better fishing weather to come soon.

Hoping for some help. :z14
Going for a week to a little cottage on the south side of Loch Rannoch the last week of this month.I fancy going back in time to fish some small burns along the lines of the ones that introduced me to trout fishing all those years back. The Carie Burn (river?) is nearby but I cannot find out anything about it.
I wondered if anyone could give me a few pointers for small stream fishing in the area (staying at Carie about 4 miles from Kinloch Rannoch).
Many thanks for your help,
Brian.

Wandered a wilderness stream not a million miles from my house on Saturday trying out the Marryat Pro Nymph rod on a very tight wee stream. Worked fantastically with limited number of times I got stuck in the trees (even then it was only to begin with as I quickly 'got my eye in'.
Loads of wee bright fish over a couple of hours fishing, great stuff, good for the soul.
