Whilst in the South folks were battering down the hatches as storm Katie kicked up a stushie, anglers at Lochter Fishery in Oldmeldrum on Easter Monday were enjoying fine fishing conditions.
These lucky anglers also had the bonus of seeing Branson the Osprey on his first day back, after his Winter holiday in West Africa, busily tidying up the nest, getting ready for the arrival of his mate Libby who should return in a day or so. Pictures of the Spring cleaning and other activities round the nest are being transmitted to the big screens in the Lochter restaurant so Osprey watchers can follow the activities and enjoy a nice coffee at the same time.
During the past week, there have been some notable catches.
James McLean had a terrific bag of thirty seven on nymphs and Fraser Neave caught and released ‘Big Jock’ the 20lb plus fish which has been hooked but never netted since he was stocked last Autumn.
Other top scorers included Bill Bain who returned twenty five using a yellow dancer. Also using dancers Greg McIntosh had nineteen to his name and Colin McKinnon grassed twelve.
Doug Gray had sixteen using ‘the flee’ and David Potting down from Shetland had eleven using a special fly the snowdrop.
With luck the arrival of the Osprey means the arrival of Spring and some warmer weather to enliven both fishers and fish.
