Title: Line Weights & Spey Casting
Post by: Duncan Inglis on 14/02/2016 at 20:37
Fishing the Dee on Friday, no fish but gave me a chance to blow the cobwebs away and getting the casting arm going.
I was fishing with an AFS 7/8 hover which cast beautifully off my Loop GASS. I changed over to a Vision ACR intermediate off the same rod and found I had to change my casting stroke to get the line to turn over properly, as both lines weight exactly the same 31g why should this be?
I noticed that the AFS seems to be thicker at the back end, which I presume puts more weight further back on the head - am I right in thinking this is the reason?

Working on the assumption that it was a Vision Ace head then yes, the balance of weight is more evenly distributed (a longer belly, if you like) than it is in an AFS which is quite heavily back weighted with a fine tip - a minor change to the way you made the cast would be reasonable  :z16
