Title: Lochter Report - Burns Pairs Bring Out Anglers
Post by: Howard & Stuart on 01/02/2016 at 14:11
At this time of year, as the season starts it is nice as an anglers to meet up with fellow fishers who have been hibernating and tying flies over the winter.

At Lochter Fishery in Oldmeldrum, on Sunday over twenty of the north east’s finest met to contest the Rabbie Burns Pairs Event.

They were favoured with the best of weather and the trout obliged as well with trout being caught throughout the day.

The event, which was run on a points basis, with two points for the first fish at every peg and one point thereafter was won by the pairing of Tommy Graham and Steve Corsar with thirty six points. They were closely followed by an under the weather Chris McAlister and Tyler Hay with thirty three with John Brown and Kevin Neri in third.

The first fish caught prize went to James Brooks and the last fish to Tommy Graham.

At the end of the event, competitors enjoyed a lunch of haggis, neeps and tatties after the haggis had been appropriately addressed by Lochter’s Howard Hughes.

Earlier in the week, anglers had enjoyed some good sport. Phil Sellar had nine on a damsel and a black tadpole, Peter Young had fifteen on lures and buzzers, David McDonald had eight on mini cats, Alan Barker had eighteen on an olive nymph, and Bill Gibb had seventeen on a home tied bungie buzzer.

At the time of writing, storm Henry is in full swing making fishing for the few hardy souls out, very testing. Trout are being caught and when conditions improve there are plenty of good days to be had out on the water.

I was one of the two people stupid enough to be out fishing today.

Roll casting a full slx was highly amusing but with 18 trout landed the fish must have liked it.

Some of the best conditioned bows I've seen in a long time too.

I'm glad I ignored the Mrs this morning.

Cheers,

Steven.
