Title: Methlick beat on Ythan
Post by: Edge on 07/10/2007 at 15:18
Does anyone know how the fishing is on the Haddo beat on the Ythan at Methlick? I've asked at the shop a couple of times, to be told that there's nothing much doing, and to try in October. Are there any brownies there at all, or is it only a sea trout run at the back end of the year?

The brownies there are usually fairly small and anyway it is now into the brown trout close season. The sea trout are well past their best by October but October is the main time for the salmon there. You need a good rise in water to see it at its best though, so you will really need to hope there is some heavy rain before the season closes at the end of October.

Thanks. Pity there aren't better brownies, 'cos at the right time of year, it looks like a pleasant place for a day's fishing.
Meanwhile. are there many salmon caught, and what would the best methods be?

It fishes quite well in October if the water levels are high enough. You can fish with either fly, spinner or worms. Most fish there seem to be caught on rapalas but the fly will work very well, in fact those who use it seem to catch as much, if not more than those using other methods.
