The past week has seen the weather rather more settled although temperatures have remained well below seasonable averages. Following a cold May/June/July it appears that August is following the same trends. Despite these conditions the fishing has remained reasonably constant with good returns and the only absence is the consistent dry fly activity which we have come to expect at this time of the year. Evening rises of dry fly have been inconsistent and although catches have been recorded these have been spasmodic with the fish holding off without reason. Hopefully August will see an improvement with the advent of the daddy season.
The best recorded catches for this week fell to; A Cowie, Fraserburgh, 33 fish, (blob, diawl bach), A Murray, Gardenstown, 25 fish, (olive fritz, white nomad), K Fraser, Greeness, 20 fish, (pink blob, buzzer, diawl bach), C Watson, New Deer, 16 fish, (olive damsel, black buzzer), J West, Fraserburgh, 15 fish, (cat's whisker, blob), J Mackay, Macduff, 10 fish, (blob), D Bond, Fraserburgh, 9 fish, (green/white fritz, yellow/white fritz), A Burnett, Gardenstown, 9 fish, (bloodworm), G Ellington, Ellon, 8 fish, (white buzzer), J Laing, Aberdeen, 7 fish, (okay dokay), S McLean, Fraserburgh, 7 fish, (olive fritz).
The weather for the coming week is suggested to continue in the same vein but with temperatures rising a degree or two as the week progresses.
Delgatie Castle Trout Fishery is open seven days from 8am with closing times of 8pm - 9pm depending on conditions.
