Title: Lochter Report - All set for the 'Springles' at Lochter
Post by: Howard & Stuart on 16/04/2015 at 08:55
Somewhat delayed, but better late than never…..

Our language is full of wise words & sayings which I hope are being carried on by today’s generation of Tweeters & Face Bookers.

“A Stitch In Time Saves Nine”, “Too Many Cooks Spoil The Broth”, “Many Mickles Mak A Muckle” and “The Early Bird Catches The worm” are just a few.

The later was clearly demonstrated this morning at Lochter Fishery Oldmeldrum when George Pirie out from Aberdeen was first to arrive, he bought his two fish ticket at 08.35 am and was back at 09.10 am depositing two lovely trout in the fridge to keep cool, between them they weighed just over 10lbs and the okay dokey was the fly which they found irresistible “The Early Angler Catches The Troot”.

The local heat of the Troutmasters Competiton was fished on Sunday and was won by Mathew Reilly who is now qualified to represent Lochter in the Troutmasters final at Grafham Water on 21st September. Jasmine McPhee won the junior heat and is keen to compete in the junior final scheduled for 25th & 26th July at Stonebridge Fishing Lakes, North Yorkshire.

Competition fun & frolics continue at Lochter this Sunday 19th April at 9am with the ever popular Spring Singles event. Entry fee is £20 which includes lunch. There is a terrific array of prizes to be won and anglers are advised to contact the Fishery with intended entries on 01651 872787 or 01651 872000 or by email to info@lochter.co.uk.
During the past week the water temperature dropped and reduced the fly hatches to virtually nil. Fish deep and fish slow were the tactics to use as demonstrated by Peter Young on the Muckle Troot loch with twelve mainly on montanas.

The Bristow’s Anglers had a nice day out with Joe Campbell putting in a top flight performance with eight, closely followed by Steve Williams with seven and John Robertson on six.

Many different flies workrd during the week , these included bloodworms which brought nine to the net for Bert Reid and seven for Jonathan Perrie and Damsels which tempted ten for Ian McCrimmon and seven for John Maybury.

The forecast is for the weather to warm up which is good news for buzzer and nymph anglers as well as those who suffer from cauld hands!!
