With the cool and breezy conditions continuing during the week it was very much a case of sub surface fishing methods that prevailed.
Peter Young from Aberdeen had two very successful outings during the week, which netted him 10 & 16 fish respectively, all on small black buzzers, over on the Muckle Troot.
Other buzzer fishers who did well were Jim Walker from Turriff with 8 fish, Tom Burnett with 6 and Paul Paton from Aberdeen who also had 6 on a buzzer & cormorant set up.
Lures fished on an intermediate or sink tip line seemed to be the most effective method and Robert Russell from Newmachar had 9 on the very popular WSW. Brian Shand from Ellon also had 9 on a variety of damsels, Brian Wills had 7 on black nomads & black fritz & yellow dancer.
With cool conditions forecast for the week ahead there is no doubt that these afore mentioned methods will continue to work well.
On Sunday the Sommer’s Tackle shop sponsored, senior/junior day was a great success. The bait pond was surrounded by eager and excited young (and old) fishers.
Many fish were caught and a lot of fun was had by all generations involved. All the youngsters went home with a prize and hopefully this introduction to fishing will lead them to continue to enjoy the sport. Once again well done to Sommer’s for putting so much effort into this event.
A reminder that the Trout Master fish off, for those that qualified , takes place at Lochter on Sunday 12th April starting at 9.30 am.
