The past week has seen variable weather conditions with lower than average temperatures and a cold wind persisting for most of the period. This seems to have driven the fish deeper although the responses to nymphs and buzzers suggest the fish are rising in the water column. There has also been a noticeable difference in the feeding pattern with fish attacking the lures more aggressively and responding better to a quicker retrieve.
The best recorded catches this week fell to; A Murray, Gardenstown, 23 fish, (black nomad), N Thomson, Turriff, 22 fish, (buzzers), J Mackay, Macduff, 19 fish, (WSW, orange blob), S Rankin, Peterhead, 19 fish, (buzzers), M Stewart, Methlick, 16 fish, (hare's ear, cormorant), P Barron, Oldmeldrum, 6 fish, (montana, nymphs), M Smith, Glasslaw, 6 fish, (WSW).
The forecast for the coming week suggests that temperatures will remain low with intermittent rain showers and a westerly breeze.
Delgatie Castle Trout Fishery is a Troutmaster water and is open seven days from 8am till 5pm although closing times will be extended til 8pm from 1st April for the month depending on light conditions and hours will be extended further from the 1st May. Visitors and novices are always welcome and under 14 years old fish free when accompanied by a paying adult. Boats (where required) rods and tackle is available for hire at the fishery.
