Sunday (7th) saw a full day of heavy rain which brought the water levels up to within an inch of overflowing and the water colour resembling drinking chocolate. Monday/Tuesday saw conditions modify and by Wednesday water colour was returning to normal and fishing activity resumed with all end tackle ie lures, nymphs, buzzers and dry flies all accounting for catches. The absence of natural daddy long legs has been very noticeable this year but the fish have reappeared this week and have shown interest in feeding with L Sleeman, Macduff and C Robertson, Aberdeen both recording fish of 7-8lb and I Watt, Turriff accounting for a 14lb plus specimen.
The best recorded catches this week were; A Murray, Gardenstown, 27 fish, (black fritz, cat's whisker), I Watt, Turriff, 12 fish, (buzzers), P Cowie, Fraserburgh, 11 fish, (spiders, hoppers), D Buchan, Peterhead, 8 fish, (buzzers), S Fraser, Macduff, 8 fish, (green buzzers), C Robertson, Aberdeen, 8 fish, (klinkhammer), J Lang, Aberdeen, 8 fish, (sinking daddy), M Daniel, Peterhead, 8 fish, (dry flies, diawl bach), M Thain, Peterhead, 7 fish, (dry flies, buzzers), N Thomson, Turriff, 7 fish, (buzzers, bloodworm).
The forecast for the coming week remains conducive to good fishing with little rain or wind but generally overcast conditions.
Delgatie Castle Trout Fishery is a Troutmaster water and is open 7 days from 8am til 7pm or till light permits. Visitors and novices are always welcome and boats (where required) rods and tackle are available for hire at the fishery. Booking is not necessary.
