Delgatie Castle has just endured the most challenging week this year with changeable weather conditions and a persistent north easterly breeze added to periods of bright sunshine. The extreme light conditions have contributed to an algae bloom which has discoloured the water and is only now showing signs of improvement. Overall the fishing conditions were not good and challenged the ability of most anglers with only a limited number managing respectable catches.
The surface activity apart from the resident brown trout was almost nil and again most success was obtained from lures on an intermediate line or from buzzers and nymphs with a quicker retrieve on a floating line.
The best catches this week fell to; A Murray, Gardenstown, (several visits), 16 fish, (various lures), D Mackay, Kintore, 9 fish, (olive damsel/buzzers), M McMillan, Fraserburgh, 7 fish, (various lures), C Watson, New Deer, 6 fish, (buzzers), N Thomson, Turriff, 6 fish, (buzzers), G Murison, Fraserburgh, 5 fish, (buzzers/wet flies).
Hopefully conditions will improve in the coming week and we look forward to the return of dry fishing and clearer water conditions.
Delgatie Castle Trout Fishery is a Troutmaster water and is open seven days from 8:00am til 8:00pm daily with evening hours extended during June and July according to conditions. Adjusted times will be notified in our fishing reports.
Visitors and novices are welcome and booking is not necessary with boats (where required) rods and tackle available for hire at the fishery.
