Title: TXL-F 3710 Build
Post by: Ben Dixon on 06/04/2014 at 10:38
Just starting on the next project, burn rod for my upcoming Assynt trip.  Decided on the TXL-F despite really wanting the CIRCA as it looks really cool I just couldn't get on with it in the 3wt configuration.

Reel seat and handle on, just ready to spine, and mark guide positions

Seat is a REC as fitted to Helios 2 that has had the cage and standard spacer cut out and discarded and replaced with a Brown Mallee Burl spacer made and finished by Mr Muir.  Copied the handle dimensions from the factory rod as closely as possible, I quite like the Sage snub nose pattern, finished off with REC NiAg winding check.

Building it up with Recoil double leg snakes, REC tip top going to fit one of the new Fuji Ti frame Torzite strippers once I've decided on the thread.  I got a spool of Gudebrod Chestnut as used on factory build by Sage but, after seeing Sandy's olive Septic build I may think about using something else.

More pics to come

Away to mark up guide positions, supposed to be on the river by now, fishing colleague running late again......

Cheers

Ben

Awesome Ben  :z16

You're pretty good at this rod building, Michael showed me his switch rod and it was beautiful.

Nice rod Ben should be good for Assynt.

What part are you heading for? I'm up that way in June, 4 for us staying at the Altnacealgach Inn with a view to fishing Cam, Borralan and a few of the other lochs in the area. With a bit of luck we may just catch a hatch of mayfly.

Decided on Pearsalls brown silk for whippings.  Got 2 sections done and first coat on and it looks superb.  Opaque unless in light then the blanks sparkles through the whipping, I like it.  Total ball ache to whip with particularly over REC 2/0 double leg snakes. Will get some pics up later.

Cheers

With chosen reel, Hydros I.  Just needs loading with a Barrio Small Stream WF3F

Another Method 7119 switch is next on the list and after that maybe a short Salmon rod.......

Off to tie some Klinkhamers for tomorrow.

Classy looking rod Ben, you get a nice finish on the epoxy.

I might even be inspired (well nearly) to get the horrible stuff out and get to work finishing one of my rods.

Had a waggle of said rod on Thursday, Ben's done a great job on it. In the flesh, the handle is very small, quite different to the photo.

Not sure about the dodgy wood spacer... ;)
