This week has seen temperatures drop to more seasonable levels with a breeze on the water all week resulting in the fish becoming more unpredictable in their feeding routines. A mixture of sunshine and cloudy conditions did nothing to alleviate the situation and the order of the day was for constant changing of end tackle in order to follow the fish.
Despite the conditions (or maybe because of) two anglers successfully landed fish from a dry fly presentation with the klinkhammer being the favoured option. There has been a rise in the surface and sub surface fish activity and catches have been readily achieved from wet flies, spiders, buzzers and small nymphs indicating feeding in the upper column of the water.
The best recorded catches this week fell to; A Murray, Gardenstown, 16 fish, (budgie), P Keir, Fyvie, 10 fish, (yellow dancer), A Gibson, Gardenstown, 7 fish, (various lures), P Broadley, Ellon, 6 fihs, (buzzers, spider), N Thomson, Turriff, 6 fish, (buzzers).
The forecast for the coming week offers to continue in a mixed vein with seasonable temperatures although a continued appearance of insect life may keep the fish in the upper regions.
Delgatie Castle Trout Fishery is a Troutmaster water and is open seven days from 8:00am til 5:00pm although from Monday 31st March opening hours will be extended according to light conditions.
Visitors and novices are welcome at the fishery where boats (if required) rods and tackle is available for hire.
